U11A Hockey v Great Walstead

20th October 2017

Won 4-1

This week the U11s were back on Astro and our opponents were Great Walstead. After a thorough warm up led by captain Robin, Copthorne were ready to make their mark on the pitch. Great Walstead won the toss and took first push. The home side set the pace and looked determined on the ball. Once Copthorne were on the attack they held possession and despite some great defending from the opposition, Zara scored a superb goal from the top of the D. Great Walstead worked hard from the centre to get the ball into the D but our defenders Kiera, Amreet and goal keeper Simi remained strong clearing the ball. Once on the attack Copthorne held their space and were aggressive on the ball putting the opposition under pressure. Gabi scored Copthorne’s second goal after some great team work from Annabelle and Charlotte. When the whistle went for half time Copthorne were in the lead 2-0. In the second half Copthorne’s passing was faster and slicker and it was fantastic to see players supporting each other. The match was very competitive with both teams creating goal scoring chances. Amreet and Keira had to work very hard in defence making some great tackles and clearing the ball from the D. Copthorne looked to be in control but were caught off guard and Great Walstead scored a goal from a break away. Copthorne were on the attack again and our passing was strong and despite Gt Walstead’s efforts, forwards Robin and Zara were too fast and Zara scored her second goal of the match. Copthorne continued to drive forward creating several chances and their efforts were rewarded by a goal scored by Gabi who skilfully beat the defenders and goalkeeper to score her second goal of the match. Well done girls! A great result and some fantastic hockey. Congratulations to Robin for being voted girl of the match.
