U11A Hockey v HXP

13th November 2017

After a 2 week break the U11s were very keen to get warmed up and start their match. Handcross had first push and for the first 5 minutes of the game the play was very evenly matched. Once Copthorne started to use the width of the pitch they looked a different team. Gabi controlled the ball from the centre sending balls into the D for attacking players Robin, Zara, Charlotte and Annabelle to run onto. This put the opposition under constant pressure and Robin scored a great goal running onto a ball sent into the D by Gabi. Amreet and Keira were solid in defence encouraged by GK Amelie who was not tested by the Handcross forwards. Copthorne played some superb hockey working as a team and Robin scored her second goal of the match just before half time. Copthorne came out very strong in the second half and were straight on the attack. It was great to see players chasing every ball and supporting each other so that they had options when passing the ball. Copthorne dominated the play in the second half putting Handcross under a lot of pressure within the D and were awarded several short corners. Although saved by the Handcross GK the ball could not be cleared from the D and Gabi was quick to take advantage of this and scored. The match was very competitive but Amreet and Keira were very quick to stop any attacks made by Handcross clearing the ball from D to the forwards. The forwards energy was endless and there efforts were rewarded by 2 more goals from Charlotte and Gabi. Well done girls! A great team effort and an amazing afternoon of hockey. Congratulations to Robin for being voted player of the match.
