U11A Netball v Ardingly

11th March 2016

Lost 3-11

The weather was not going to dampen the spirits of the U11s for their last netball match of the season. Copthorne won the toss and took first centre pass. Copthorne’s attacking players were quick off the mark and their passing was sharp and a goal was scored with only four passes. Around court both teams were very evenly matched and Ardingly responded with an equaliser. In defence Lila, Jemima and Isabella worked as a cohesive unit giving the opposition very little opportunity to get the ball into their D. Copthorne moved well on the court, being fast paced and accurate, however Ardingly worked hard too to keep possession and scored just before the whistle went. In the second quarter unfortunately our passing and movement around court was not as sharp and accurate as it had been and the opposition started to pull away. At half time Ardingly were winning 7-2. After a positive team talk at half time the girls worked hard to keep possession of the ball but were up against  Ardingly team who were quicker on the ball and scoring from every opportunity. Emily and Abigail were solid in mid court and worked hard on the edge of the circle to get the ball into shooters Grace and Emma who were up against an excellent Ardingly defence. Despite the pressure from the opposition the whole team worked hard in the last quarter to get back into the match. They were driving forward for the ball, creating spaces, passing accurately and once again the ball flowed. Unfortunately time ran out and it was a win for Ardingly 11-3.

Well done girls! At times the netball today was superb and great to watch! It was a pity that you could not maintain this level throughout all four quarters.

Well done to Isabel who was voted player of the match and a special mention goes to Lila for her relentless hard work in defence throughout the entire match. JC
