Rain drenched courts meant that this week’s match was played away at Brambletye in their sports hall. Copthorne won the toss and chose first centre pass.
After working on a system of centre passes during Tuesday’s training session, when the whistle went the ball was passed from Abigail straight down the court and a goal was scored. Hoorah! Brambletye responded straight away by scoring an equaliser. Around court the match was very tightly contested but Brambletye took their chances when they were in their attacking D and scored 2 further goals. In the second quarter the intensity was high with both teams marking tightly creating some excellent play. The game went with centre pass and when the whistle went for half time Brambletye were leading 5-2. In the second half there was some fantastic defensive work by Jemima and Lila in the D. Unfortunately our passes and movement around court were not as sharp and as accurate as they had been in the first half and the opposition took advantage of this. Brambletye were quicker on the ball making very few mistakes and added 2 more goals to their score. Abigail worked tirelessly around court linking well with Isabella and Emily but struggled to get the ball into shooters Emma and Grace. At the end of the match it was a win for Brambletye 9-2. Despite the final score it was a very close fought match with both teams performing well. I was pleased with how the girls played today showing some improvement and better team work. Well done girls! Congratulations to Jemima who was voted player of the match and a special mention to Abigail who was superb today against a very good centre. JC
