Today our match was to be played inside on a much smaller court. After a good warm up and getting the girls used to the surface and the reduced size of the court we were all set! St Christopher’s won the toss and took first centre pass and it was soon clear that it was going to be a close match. The first goal was scored by the home side, but Copthorne soon equalised. Goals continued to go with centre pass with each team adding a further 2 goals to their score. Jemima, Lila and lsabella worked hard in defence and made some great interceptions. Emily and Abigail worked well together in attack; moving quickly around the court and getting the ball into the D. Emma and Grace got themselves into strong attacking positions within the D scoring 2 more goals. At the end of the first quarter we were in front 5-3. In the 2nd quarter there was some excellent netball played by both teams with the match going from end to end. When the whistle went for half time Copthorne were leading 6-4. In the last two quarters St Christopher’s picked up the pace and soon equalised the score. Our passes and movement around court were not as sharp as they had been in the first half and the opposition took advantage of this and started to pull away. Jemima and Lila worked tirelessly in defence but were up against a very good goal attack that did not miss a shot. Despite the pressure from the opposition and some tired legs the whole team worked hard to get back into the match. Unfortunately time ran out and it was a win to St Christopher’s. Congratulations girls! I am very pleased with their performance today and with further hard work and determination they should continue to improve this season. Well done to Emma who was voted player of the match and a special mention to Jemima who was voted player of the match by the St Christopher’s umpire.
