U11A Rounders v Cumnor House – Summer 2017

14th May 2017

This week was more like it, the Sun was out and we were finally able to play a full rounders match. Ruby H captained the side today and did a great job encouraging the girls throughout the match and showing great sportsmanship. The girls were a little slow to get onto the scoresheet today and it took them all a bat each to get going, but after this there were some great whole rounders from Ruby H, Emily and Tali and good halves from Freya and Ruby H. At the end of the first innings we had scored 5½ rounders, not a bad start!

Copthorne then went into field and were solid, displaying great teamwork throughout, chasing down and fielding in any long hits quickly, resulting in them stopping lots of full rounders, in fact any full rounders at all! Both Tanishka as bowler, and Beth as second deep both took a great catch and Ruby H worked well with the other fielders around her to stump two players out at second post. At the end of the first innings it was 5½ rounders to Copthorne and 4 to Cumnor.

It was all to play for in the second innings, as although Copthorne were up, it was a close match, which could go either way! Copthorne then went into bat for the second time and although they were much quicker to get on the scoresheet this time, Cumnor had tightened their fielding and didn’t allow us to score as much as we would have liked! Nevertheless there was still some good rounders scored from Beth and Emily, and Ruby H, Ruby O, Freya and Tia all scored good halves, taking Copthorne’s total to 10½.

It was then Copthorne’s second turn to field and once again they were solid, getting 6 of Cumnor’s players out (one at first post by Tali and five at second post by Ruby H) Despite their best efforts though, Cumnor had definitely got their eye in when it came to batting in this innings and applied the pressure, resulting in a few mistakes and mishaps from Copthorne. At the end of the match despite it being closely fought throughout, Cumnor just managed to pip Copthorne to the post by 3 rounders, which was a shame as I think the girls at least deserved a draw for all their efforts today, but that’s the way it goes sometimes in rounders!

Well done to all the girls today, your fielding was sound, we just need to keep practising with our batting! My POM this week was Ruby H and Beth, and Cumnor’s POM was also Beth for her fielding and Emily for her batting!

Ruby H and Emily 2½, Tali 2, Beth and Freya 1, Ruby. O, Alana and Tia ½, Macie, Tanishka, Emily.
