Despite the weather being a little bit doubtful this week the match went ahead and we managed to get two full innings in before the heavens opened! The U11s went into bat first and due to a few errors, some of our players got out very early on. After this the U11s did pick up their game and there was 2 good rounders scored from Emily W and Ruby O, as well as some halves!
The U11s then went into field and once again they proved just how solid their fielding was, with some great bowling and backstop work from Mallory and Emily. Ruby H and Beth were solid around the first two posts. Ruby O also took a great catch in this innings! It was so close right down to the last few good balls, where a loss of concentration allowed Great Walstead to score 2 rounders, putting them ahead of us by 1½, going into the second innings!
In the second innings of batting the U11s definitely picked their batting up, although I still think there is still room for improvement with this, and full rounders were scored by Mallory and Emily W and there was also lots more good halves! At the end of this innings we had brought our total to 12½!
The U11s then went all out in the last innings when fielding and a special mention must be said to Beth as her superb fielding and throwing resulted in lots of full rounders being stopped, to only allow halves to be scored! Tali also took a great catch and once again we proved just how good our fielding can be! With just a few good balls to go it was even between the two teams.
However, just like in the first innings, the U11s panicked slightly and their concentration wavered, so despite their best efforts Great Walstead just managed to steam ahead with a full rounder and two halves, which once again could have been full rounders, but were stopped! The final score was 14½ to Great Walstead and 12½ to Copthorne, another very worthy effort for the U11s. You were definitely the better fielding side, we just need to keep going with our batting!
POM today picked by Great Walstead was Beth for her fielding and Tanishka for her batting and my POM was Beth for her fielding and Emily and Mallory for their batting! Keep going girls!
Emily W 3½, Mallory 3, Ruby O 2, Beth and Macie 1½, Emily 1 and Ruby H, Tali and Tanishka.
