U11A Rugby v Lancing Prep

22nd January 2016

With the frost claiming the grounds at Lancing Prep we arranged for them to travel to us where we had just enough sunshine to allow the game to go ahead.

The game started well as we raced into a 2 try lead but this was to be the biggest points difference throughout the whole game as both teams attacked and defended well to play out a very entertaining and competitive match. Although we never fell behind, Lancing did pull level on a couple of occasions which meant our boys had to regroup quickly in order to restore their lead. This was arguably our best game of the season so far, up against a well drilled and tough tackling team we knew we had to move the ball quickly in order to create space. Our offloading in the tackle and ‘rip and roll’ game worked extremely well and if truth be told we could and should have scored at least 4 more tries only to be held up over the try line, fall short of the line or fail to ground the ball properly. The tries kept coming at both ends of the pitch but we had just enough possession and skill to regain our 2 try lead to finish the game 7-5 winners. I was pleased with the overall performance of the team and look forward to seeing the boys again next week at home to Pennthorpe. Well done, another win and plenty more tries on the board! MA
