After the three week break over Christmas it was great to get straight back in to playing fixtures again. The boys had trained well during the week and were itching to take to the field.
This has to be one of the most complete performances I have ever seen from an Under 11’s team. It was nothing short of a real team effort and they thoroughly deserved their big win. I am not going to dwell on individual performances as every boy played their part whether it be consistently making tackles, doing the dogs body work in the rucks, running in support, moving the ball quickly in attack or dotting the ball down over the try line.
We gave a lot of size away to Pennthorpe but what we lack in physical presence we more than made up for in skill level and desire to work for each other. This group of boys are beginning to learn how each other play the game and are starting to form partnerships. You don’t score 6 first half tries against Pennthorpe if you aren’t working as a team. To score a further 4 tries in the second half maybe made the score line slightly flattering in our favour, however I would find it difficult to say that we didn’t deserve them! There were moments of individual brilliance coupled with unselfish play to bring a great balance to the performance and I can only applaud the boys for sticking to what they are being taught.
Our try scorers were Sam P (4), Luke (3), Shams, Sam R and Archie but without the efforts of Ruari, William, Nicholas, Ewan, Wesley and Thomas we would never have been in the position to score.
There is a lot of talent in Year 6 and they will only get better the longer they stick together as a group. Next week we travel to Lancing Prep in what promises to be another top performances. Better never stops…
