Today was the U11Bs second to last hockey match of the season and my first at umpiring for this team. After winning the first push back Copthorne kept most of the possession in the first half and Eva, Ellie, Lacey, Sophie and Isabella all had a great first half in attack, having lots of opportunities to score. However we just couldn’t seem to convert and the girls were just holding onto the ball in the D for that little bit too long, allowing Lingfield’s defence and goalie to apply the pressure. Both Ava and Kirsten had a solid first half in defence and Simi wasn’t really tested. However one of the Lingfield players did manage to sneak past our defence and go for goal but Simi made a fantastic save and then again with her stick. At the end of the first half the U11s deserved to be up but the score line remained at 0-0. After a talk at half time Copthorne really went for it in the second half and once again Simi, Ava and Kirsten held their ground in defence and although Lingfield did fight back a bit they were not really tested in the D, shutting them down beforehand. The attack fought hard and were much quicker with their passing and going for goal when in the D although perhaps a little too quick in this half! Despite the U11s best efforts the score line remained at 0-0 today which was a shame, as we deserved at least 1 goal for all the efforts! Well done to all of the girls today it was nice to see how far some of your skills have improved this season with the help of Mrs Cook and Mrs Hamps.
Best of luck for those playing in the Colts B tournament tomorrow and for your last match of the season next week! POM today was Simi which was well deserved, my POM today would have gone to all of the defence.
