U11B Rounders v Cumnor – Lost 11½-14

The girls won the toss and decided to field first. In the first innings, although Cumnor didn’t score many whole rounders, we gave away lots of half rounders through no balls and poor communication as to where the ball should be thrown. As the girls started to relax and focus, this got less and Charlotte started to bowl very accurately as well as catching someone out. Lottie had a very strong and accurate throw to Jemima on 2nd post when Cumnor had a backwards hit which stopped them scoring at 2nd. Cumnor scored 9 rounders in the first innings, which meant as a team, Copthorne had a lot of catching up to do. Our batting was fairly good, seeing some huge hits from Charlotte scoring 2 rounders. Many of the other girls scored half rounders to bring our total up to 6. If we wanted to win, the girls were going to have to take risks and sprint. The 2nd innings showed much tighter fielding from the Copthorne girls, accurate passing and catching allowed Cumnor to get only 5 rounders. There was also a greater sense of teamwork in this innings, helping each other out and talking to know where to get the ball to. With Cumnor at a total of 14, we needed 8 ½ rounders to win. The girls were confident and took risks, enabling them to score half rounders at 2nd. Cumnor were misfielding many of their balls which allowed Copthorne to get all the way to 4th even if they hadn’t hit it, adding some extra half rounders in. Sadly we only managed to get 5½ rounders in the 2nd innings, leaving the final score at 14-11½ to Cumnor. Although we lost, it was a tight game throughout. HD
