It turned out to be a somewhat disappointing end to the indoor hockey season as both A and B teams were soundly beaten by a good Cottesmore side.
The A team started poorly, leaking goals from the very first whistle and finding it difficult to get past a resolute defensive unit. When they did finally the past the defence they found a very good goalkeeper in their way who seemed to keep out anything the boys could throw at him. Cottesmore continued to attack and regularly found their way through. Only another great performance from Ben in goal kept the score down. To their credit the boys kept working at it and did not let their heads drop. When it looked as if we would never score a short corner was expertly put away by Zac into the bottom corner as the final whistle went. A disappointing 6-1 loss but a big thank you to all the boys involved in the A team this season. There has been some great improvement and considering some of the boys playing had never held a hockey stick in a match before they have worked hard and should give themselves some credit. Those boys in Year 7 will have another crack at it next year.
The B team suffered a similar defeat as the A team with Cottesmore seemingly being a constant attack for most of the match and Copthorne defending for their lives. It didn’t start well with the Cottesmore forward running straight through from the opening whistle to score and this was then followed with two more goals. Eventually the boys got themselves in gear and threatened the Cottesmore defence but they held firm and were a difficult unit to break down. Zac in goal also had a great game and Beau worked his socks off for the entire match and really did make a huge difference throughout the game. Zac unfortunately couldn’t keep everything out as Cottesmore scored three more goals before the end but they had to work really hard to get the ball past him. The final score 6-0 to Cottesmore. Again well done to all the boys involved this season. I am sure next season will show some more positive results and the experiences of this season will be beneficial to you all. CC
