On a fantastic Thursday afternoon, the U13 girls took to the courts for one last time. The opposition for this afternoon were Cottesmore and based on previous years, they have always been tough to beat. If there was any chance for an upset, this was it as this year’s u13 have been Copthorne’s strongest group. All the girl’s been aware of their final match, went out determined to enjoy it and end on a high. They all got off to a good start, winning the first round comfortable 3-0. Liliana and Jemima meant business by winning their first game 6-0. The pair of Harriet/Charlotte and Karina/Natalie took a bit longer to overcome their oppositions 6-3.
The second round was a bit tougher, points didn’t come too easily. Both schools played some fantastic rallies and shots. It was Harriet and Charlotte this time round were the pair who had a 6-0 victory. Liliana and Jemima dropped their first games of the afternoon but still managed to always be one break ahead, winning 6-3. Karina and Natalie forgot for a while they were playing tennis and could not stop laughing and soon found themselves down 1-5. They did claw their way back to 3-5, holding off a couple of match points along the way but unfortunately their luck ran out. One paper the final round may have been one way traffic in favour of Copthorne but that was not the case. All 3 pairs played some well worked rallies, placing the ball all around the court. I have also never seen them volley so confidently before! Harriet/Charlotte once again ended their game 6-0, Liliana/Jemima only dropped one game winning 6-1 and Karina/Natalie put their last game behind them and went on to win their last game 6-3.
Well done to all the girls for a superb afternoon of tennis, you all made your parents proud!
