We travelled optimistically down to Hove for our match against St Christopher’s this week on the back of some strong performances and good results before half-term. The boys encountered a well-drilled squad with some strong individuals but I think it is fair to say that the final score was not a true reflection of the match. Matthew produced some great saves in the first half but realistically could do little about the three strikes which found the back of his net. Rex and Alexander were both full of energy and tackled strongly, Charlie and Tommy in midfield also did their bit in defence but the opposition simply took their chances very efficiently indeed. In contrast, we were not quite playing with our usual fluency when we had possession and moved forwards. Thus Arun did not have many goal scoring opportunities upfront.
At half-time Alexander went into goal and Matthew moved into the defence. This move worked well as Alexander pulled off some acrobatic saves and Matthew made some strong tackles. Rex had another good game dispossessing the opposition and then bringing the ball forward strongly. Charlie continued to work hard and played some passes through for Arun but our opportunities could not be converted on this occasion. Nonetheless, I was proud of the way the boys kept fighting for possession and refused to give up. They deserved better than a 5-0 scoreline and should be congratulated for their attitude.
Man of the match: Alexander for outstanding defence followed by athleticism in goal!
