U8 ‘A’ Netball v Caterham

15th November 2016

After last weeks success the girls were keen to get going. Jasmine was captain today but unfortunately lost the toss allowing the shooters to choose their end. The girls got off to a slightly muddled start and it took both teams a few minutes to warm up and settle. Play was very evenly matched around court and at the end of the first quarter the score was 0-0. In the second quarter Rachel was very quick out at the centre pass from Tianna but our play was still muddled, all wanting the ball! Once we started to find better positions on court our play improved and we were very unlucky not to have scored any goals. When the whistle went for half time the score was still 0-0.

Copthorne continued to improve during the second half with some great centre court play between Jennifer, Tianna and Rachel. Jasmine and Rachel worked much better together in the circle and although the ball hit the ring on several occasions it just did not want to go in! Copthorne were quicker than their opponents around court and were running into space and looked the better team. At the end of the third quarter the score was still 0-0. Copthorne dominated the last quarter and Priya, Anna and Ruby were solid in defence not giving Caterham the opportunity to shoot. Shooters Jasmine and Rachel dominated in the circle and their efforts were finally rewarded with a goal. This was certainly Copthorne’s best quarter moving quickly around court and linking passes together. The final whistle went and it was a win for Copthorne 1-0.

Although we did not score lots of goals today the girl’s movement around court was quick showing some great team work. Congratulations to the team today! My POM was shared between Tianna and Rachel. You certainly have come a long way since September! A huge thank you to all spectators today for your support and encouragement.
