U8 ‘A’ Netball v Great Walstead

On a bright but chilly afternoon the U8’s were all warmed up and set to go!! Great Walstead won the toss and took the first centre pass. Great Walstead started much the stronger and scored the first goal. Copthorne found it difficult to keep possession of the ball against a team who were much taller. When the whistle went for the end of the first quarter Great Walstead were in the lead 3-0. In the second quarter Great Walstead continued to dominate the match and even though Anna and Ruby defended bravely they were up against a very agile and superb goal attack who scored a further 2 goals.

After a positive team talk at half time our focus for the second half was to work on spacing and getting in front of our player. In the third quarter Copthorne tried hard to get in front of their players and to be more assertive on court. There was some excellent defending and interceptions from Anna, Ruby and Priya whilst Tianna, Bella and Rachel worked tirelessly to get the ball into shooter Jasmine. Although Great Walstead were a strong team the girls worked hard in the final quarter to keep possession of the ball. However despite a tremendous effort from the Copthorne team Great Walstead managed to score a goal winning the match 7-0.

This was certainly a very tough match today against a very tall and strong Great Walstead team. The girls should be congratulated on their effort and determination throughout the match today. We need to continue to work hard on improving our spacing around court. Well done to Tianna who was voted player of the match and a special mention to Ruby who had a fantastic game as GK. It was lovely to see so many spectators today. Thank you for your support and encouragement.
