U8 A Netball v Hazelwood

11th January 2017

The first match after the Christmas break and the Copthorne girls showed they were toughies not fluffies! With Jasmine and Bella both getting the ball in the face and Tianna tumbling over they all put on a brave face and got on with the game. Well done girls!

The Copthorne girls had the majority of possession throughout the game and both Jasmine and Rachel had several chances to score, unfortunately the ball just wouldn’t go through the net! The Hazelwood team had some tall players and their GD and GK gave our shooters a hard time. The first quarter ended 0-0.

After a quick team talk where the emphasis was keeping possession and not to try and throw the ball over the tall defenders we started to make progress. Jasmine and Rachel played some lovely netball in the D with both of them passing the ball to whoever was closest to the post … great team work! Rachel scored 2 goals to put us into the lead at half-time.

The Hazelwood team came out strong after the break but Ruby, Anna and Priya were solid in defence with them all being alert to any loose ball to pounce on before the opposition. The Copthorne girls marked their players well and it wasn’t long before we turned over the ball. The transition through the court was excellent on many occasions with great movement off the ball and players timing their runs well. Tianna used her speed and found good space then linked well with Bella and Rachel; their quick passing was too good for the Hazelwood girls at times.

An excellent display of netball from girls so young; well done to Ruby who was voted player of the match by the Hazelwood team, but my player of the match goes to Bella for her all-round play.

Well done girls! Team: Ruby (Capt), Jasmine, Rachel, Tianna, Bella, Priya and Anna
