After only two sessions following the Christmas break the U8 boys picked up where they left off in December with a good performance against Hurst on Wednesday. In chilly conditions, Copthorne started the game and immediately scored the first try through good work from Rex. The first half saw both sides trade tries with some excellent running from both teams making it difficult to tag. Charlie, Alex S and Matthew all went over to score tries. Tag rugby can be won or lost depending on how many mistakes are made. Unfortunately one too many errors meant that Hurst went into half time one try up.
The second half was again a competitive battle with many tries scored by both sides. Copthorne’s tagging improved in the second half, especially through Marcus and Harry, although this will be something to work on over the coming days. The passing was good and Copthorne scored some free flowing tries with 4 or more passes made before going over the try line. With less than a minute left Hurst scored to lead by one. The last play of the game was called with Copthorne in possession. The ball was given to Charlie who weaved his way in and out of defenders to score the try to level the game as the final whistle sounded. 14-14 the final score and a solid performance from the boys. If they can play as they did in the second half for the remainder of this season then they will win more than they will lose.
