The girls were all very excited to play today as it was their first match after the half term break. Being a home fixture and the milder weather meant all the year 3 girls were able to play. Jennifer was captain today and although she did not win the toss Copthorne were very quick to gain possession of the ball. Talia, Jennifer and Sophie’s movement was superb around court, sprinting to get in front of the opposition to receive the ball so that they could get the ball to GS Paige who scored Copthorne’s first goal. In defence Amelia, Pippa, Zara and Ivy May were sticking close to their players not allowing the opposition the opportunity to shoot. With Copthorne being quicker than Lingfield around court it was not long until Copthorne scored another goal.

In the second quarter Copthorne continued to look the stronger team with Samantha and Jennifer using their speed around court to get the ball into shooters Talia and Paige. With both shooters converting their shots, the score at half time was 4-0 to Copthorne.

With the change of ends at half time it took a little while for both teams to adjust. Once the girls got back into their stride I was pleased to see them running into space to receive the ball and then moving forward. Pippa was excellent in defence making several interceptions resulting in the opposition having very few shooting opportunities. Shooters Sophie and Bethany worked well together in the circle passing the ball to get close to the post. When the whistle went for the end of the third quarter Copthorne had increased their lead to 6-0.

In the last quarter Copthorne continued to play with great enthusiasm running continuously up and down the court. The girls scored another 2 goals and when the final whistle went Copthorne had won 8-0.

Well done to Jennifer who was voted player of the match but I thought you all played brilliantly! Well done to the team; Paige, Sophie, Bethany, Samantha, Jennifer, Talia, Ivy May, Zara, Pippa, Amelia and Emily.
