On a lovely sunny afternoon the Year 3 girls were in high spirits as for the majority of them it was their first ever rounders match. Ruby was captain today and won the toss and put HXP into bat first. We had a squad of 13 players and HXP had 11 so it was agreed to allow each team to field 11 players. During the first innings the girls fielded really well with only a few mistakes. Talia bowled consistently well and Bethany at backstop was quick to retrieve the ball passing back to the bowler or Jennifer on 4th post. Deep fielders Paige and Pippa were quick to stop any ball hit out into the field and Ruby managed to get 3 players out at 2nd post. At the end of the innings HXP had managed to score 3½ rounders.

It was now Copthorne’s turn to bat and Talia got the team off to a good start by scoring half a rounder on the first ball. This was followed by great full rounders by Bethany, Ruby, Jennifer (2) and Priya and halves by Samantha, Paige, Sophie, Talia and Bethany. Copthorne had scored a total of 8 rounders!

After a drink of water and a quick team talk both teams were ready for their 2nd innings. Copthorne were very focused and fielded brilliantly. Priya bowled exceptionally well and Anna was extremely accurate at backstop getting the ball quickly back to Priya or to
Jennifer who stumped several players out on 4th post. Copthorne managed to get all 11 players out – Ivy-May stumping a player at first, Ruby stumping several players at 2nd, Jasmine a player at third and Jennifer several at 4th post.

Copthorne batted as well as they could in their second innings scoring 2½ rounders. Unfortunately HXP’s bowling was inconsistent which meant that very few good balls were bowled! This made it very difficult for Copthorne to hit the ball and score rounders!
Priya, Jennifer, Talia, Ruby and Anna all managed to score half rounders. The final score was a win for Copthorne 10½- 6½. Well done girls! A great team effort.

Congratulations to Priya who was voted player of the match by HXP and to Jennifer who was top batter scoring 2½ rounders.
