U8 Tag Rugby v Brambletye and Windlesham

3rd December 2016

The U8’s enjoyed 3 competitive games on Wednesday when they played Brambletye and two Windlesham sides in an entertaining afternoons tag rugby. The first of the three games saw Copthorne come up against the hosts Brambletye. It was obvious that a lot had been learned from last week’s first match as the boys started quickly and scored two early tries showing great running lines and some good passing skills once tagged. Brambletye scored a reply try before Copthorne extended their lead by another two tries with some more flowing tag rugby. Before the end Brambletye managed another two scores but Copthorne held out for a solid 4-3 win.

The second game against Windlesham’s first side was an exciting affair with lots of tries and good tagging. The lead changed hands numerous times with excellent tries being scored from both teams and try saving tags being made. The half time score of 3-3 was fair. The second half saw Copthorne take the lead twice only to be pegged back by Windlesham straight from the restart. The final score was 5-5 and if every game could be this exciting then it will be a great season.

The final game against Windlesham’s second side was a more one sided affair. Windlesham had strong runners and the Copthorne boys struggled to deal with their pace. At half time Copthorne were 5-1 down but the second half the boys dug in and made more of a game of it scoring a few tries of their own as Windlesham then struggled to contain the Copthorne
attack. The final score of 7-4 was a disappointing end but the boys showed what they can do in the second half and should take this away from the game and forget the first half.

Well done to all the Year 3 boys who took part. Rex, Alex, Arun and Matthew all showed excellent skills when running with the ball. Charlie, Harry and Marcus all took some great tags at crucial moments and were backed up well Henry and Alexander. After only a few training sessions and couple of matches so far the boys show real potential and it promises to be a good rugby season for them.
