All the U8 boys made their way to Brambletye on a chilly Wednesday afternoon for their second match this season against their local rivals. With only a 7 a side game being played it would turn out to be an afternoon with a lot of substitutions and making the most of your time on the pitch. The game began brightly for Copthorne with a try being scored by Arun with the first play of the game. Brambletye forced their way over the try line to score themselves but this was swiftly followed by Alex scoring from the restart without being tagged. John then went over to score a well worked try involving lots of passing from Alexander and Matthew. Missed tags cost the boys tries in the first half and with Copthorne’s dominance with ball in hand it seemed crazy that the half time score was level at 5-5.
After the collapse in the second half last week it was pleasing that the opposite happened this week. All the boys put in a great effort to score unanswered tries and the defence was much improved. Great tagging by Henry, Harry and Tommy lead to great individual tries from Charlie and Rex. With Brambletye seemingly running out of ideas Copthorne extended their lead to 11-7 with Arun and Alex again scoring tries from their own half of the field. The final score of 11-7 doesn’t quite show the dominance of the Copthorne performance but it was a well-deserved victory and one that I hope will kick start the second half of the rugby season.
