U8 Tag Rugby v St. Christopher’s

27th November 2016

For all the boys in the U8’s, this was their first ever full game of tag rugby against another school. With only a handful of training sessions under their belts they took to the field slightly nervous but very excited. The game started a little chaotically with both sides getting used to the rules and with lots of mistakes being made. Little by little the game started to flow more and St Christopher’s were the first to score with some good passing and running with the ball. Copthorne grew in confidence throughout the first half and scored a try of their own as their passing became more accurate. Alex made some excellent runs and was backed up by Matthew and Tommy. Marcus turned into a tagging machine and threw himself all over the pitch in attempts to tag the opposition. The first half ended with St Christopher’s with the slight upper hand as their strong runners ran some good lines to score.

The second half started much the same way as the first. Harry scored an excellent breakaway try as did Alex and Rex also made an excellent run from his own half to score in the corner. Marcus continued to tag and was supported by Henry who started to make some good runs as well. St Christopher’s always managed to keep their lead and extended it at the end as the Copthorne boys tired from their excellent efforts throughout the game.

At the end of the game the score wasn’t important and actually wasn’t kept. The main aim of the afternoon was for all the boys to experience a tag rugby match, try out some of their skills and enjoy themselves. I think the afternoon achieved all these things. Well done to all the boys. It was a pleasing start and gives them a platform to work from for the rest of the rugby season.
