For many of the team this was their first ever experience of a rugby match against another school and although the result might not have been a positive one there were certainly many positives to be taken out of the game.
The game started with both teams making some good runs and getting some good tags and eventually it was St Christopher’s who scored the first try. Copthorne battled back and scored a try of their own through a great run from James down the left wing. St Christopher’s had some strong runners with the ball who carved open the Copthorne defence to score a few more tries before the half time whistle leaving the boys downhearted. There was some excellent tagging from all the boys, especially Josh which kept the score down.
After a half time team talk trying to motivate the boys back into action there was a positive start with Pranav making some strong runs supported by Elliott who both scored tries early in the first half. The boys all continued to tag well and they almost scored tries through Lewis and Dylan but both were thwarted just before they got to the line. As the boys began to tire St Christopher’s runners scored a few more tries in the final couple of minutes.
The boys came off the pitch very disappointed but they shouldn’t worry about the result at such an early stage in the rugby season. There are many things to work on but overall they should be proud of their efforts and I am sure that with more training sessions and hard work they will turn into a good rugby side. CC
