U8A and B v Lancing Prep

5th October 2017

This week the under 8’s travelled to Lancing in a reverse fixture from last week’s 2 good matches. With a few changes in the teams’ the A’s and B’s both had different players from last week, so we knew we’d have to work hard to gain any good results. The B’s started with Caelan in goal, and Tobi A and Toby F in front of him, throughout the whole of the first half the defender hardly touched the ball with the midfield of Eddie and Freddie working hard, Alfie upfront worked hard throughout the game and got his rewards when he scored the first goal roughly 5 minutes in. A change at half time saw Toby F go in goal, and Caelan come into the midfield alongside Jack F. We knew that if we stopped them scoring we would win the game comfortably. We broke through the Lancing defence one more time, midway through the second half when Alfie won the ball back and slid it into the bottom right hand corner of the goal. A good finish. Toby in goal was hardly troubled apart from a great catch from a corner.  A good win with a different team to last week and a second clean sheet in a row to be proud of.

The A’s travelled to Lancing knowing that we were going to be in a tough match after last week’s difficult game against the same opposition.  We had made a few changes with some boys impressing in the B’s last week, rightly deserving the chance to play in the A’s. We started slowly, but worked hard every time we lost the ball, in particular Taran and Leo in midfield. We were given a penalty half way through the first half when the Lancing defender deliberately handled the ball in their box. Taylor was first to claim the ball, but pushed his penalty wide of the post. To rub salt into the wounds, Lancing scored just before half time with their star man diving past the tackle of Harrison who ended up sat on the floor, then smartly rounded Rohan in goal to slot the ball home. A great goal and no shame in conceding goals like that. At half time we were happy with the way in which we were playing we just lacked that final killer pass to get us through on goal. In the second half we continued to work hard, and got our rewards after roughly five minutes when Taran won the ball off the defender to smash it into the bar and JUST over the line. Our second goal came when we won the ball back in midfield and Harry A smashing the ball into the bottom corner giving the goalkeeper no chance. A great 2-1 victory really well earnt by working hard at both ends of the pitch. Man of the Match was Charlie A for being a solid rock at the back and not letting the Lancing star players show what they can do. He didn’t lose the ball all game! Fantastic results.
