U8A Cricket v Ardingly

This week most of the Under 8 A’s played their very first competitive match against Ardingly at Ardingly. A few of the boys had played one match for the under 9 B’s and they showed that they had benefited from playing in the Under 9 B’s not only individually but also as cricketers and they lifted their team mates to their level who hadn’t had that same opportunity yet. Being pairs cricket everyone gets to bowl 2 overs and everyone gets to bat with a partner for a maximum of 4 overs. At this level it is mainly about the development of the essential cricketing skills for the boys and not who gets the most wickets or runs and also about fun. The boys, both from Copthorne and Ardingly played the match in good spirit and in doing so had a great time but more importantly were better players than when they began the match. Overall the goal of under 8’s cricket is to prepare them for a more serious competition next year in under 9’s. As long as all the players improve everyone wins. For those who just want to know the result Copthorne won by 4 runs in the last over of the match.  JB
