The U8s were all very excited to be playing in their first ever tournament. There were 7 teams in 2 pools and we were in Pool B.

Our first game was against Brambletye. The girls were a little slow to get started, but once they put their nerves aside we started to play some fabulous netball. Layla was playing in the Centre and Harley at WA with Ella and Biba in the GS and GA positions. Daisy dominated the defending D assisted by Clara, Ffion and Isobel.

The girls played some lovely flowing netball and the transition from defence to attack was fabulous to watch. The girls gelled well together and Biba and Ella have a wonderful partnership in the attacking D. We won this game 4-2.

Next up was Great Walstead B. The Copthorne girls dominated this game from the first whistle with fantastic movement on court and great shooting from Ella and Biba. Harley, Layla and Daisy intercepted well and the GW girls hardly had any chances to shoot. Clara made some good backline passes to get the ball back up the court. We won this game 5-0.

Our third and final pool game was against Brighton Prep. The girls were in full flow now excited to have won their first 2 games, and beginning to wonder just how far we could go in this competition. Brighton Prep didn’t trouble us too much and we settled quickly and played our game. Great shooting again from Biba & Ella saw us win this game 4-0 which put us at the top of Pool B.

Semi-final time! We found ourselves against Hurst who were runners-up in Pool A. The girls were starting to tire now but they battled on and we beat Hurst 2-0 putting us in the final, once again against Brambletye.

The times were cut down a little and this was a real end to end battle. We had several chances but unlike earlier, the shots just weren’t going in. The Brambletye team had a very athletic Centre but Harley wasn’t going to give in to her and she played just as hard. We reached half-time 0-0. I then made the decision to put Ella into defence, as the Brambletye shooters weren’t very tall and I thought Ella’s height would help. Ffion took the GS position and we started the second half.

Well what a second half! It wasn’t long before we got the ball into our attacking circle and Ffion was under the post. With her first shot of the day it went in! The tactical change worked as Ella didn’t touch the ball in the second half with the mid court players doing brilliantly to intercept the ball before it got into the Brambletye attacking third. Quite fittingly, Biba put the game out of Brambletye’s reach with a distance shot to win the game.

Well done girls, Mrs Jones is super proud! You all played wonderful netball and it was lovely to hear some of the other mums and staff members saying well done and what a great little team!

Players of the Match : ALL of you, but especially Biba and Ella for their fabulous shooting and movement on and off the ball. Well done girls! Huge thanks to all our supporters. MJ
