The U8A had a fun afternoon at Windlesham taking part in the annual tag festival. The order of the day would be four shortened games with an emphasis on sportsmanship and teamwork rather than final scores and winning. With the wind howling the boys took to the pitch and put on an excellent first display against Windlesham playing some attacking flowing rugby with the handling impressing all who watched. Although the scores didn’t count an unofficial 6-3 win was well deserved. The second game against St Christopher’s was a close fought affair. With no tag turnovers the boys great defensive work went a little unrewarded with St Chrisopher’s scoring tries after a number of good tags. The score of a 5-4 loss seemed a little unfair but the boys carried on with their game playing some great rugby. Copthorne then brushed aside Brambletye with a fantastic display. They were so dominant that stipulations had to be put in place to pass the ball around even more than they were already doing and the boys still managed to do this really well and came out with a 7-4 victory. The final game against Handcross Park once again showed Copthorne’s superiority in their group with a 5-3 victory once again with stipulations put in place. The afternoon was finished off with a game of ‘sharks and sardines’ which was a fun way to end a nice afternoon. Well done to all. I thought the boys were unlucky not to be awarded the shield for the best team of the day. Team: Freddy G, Taran S, Oliver W, Rohan G, Charlie A, Harry A, Tobi A.
