Lost 3-5

The girls were disappointed when their match was cancelled last week due to the bad weather, but were pleased when I was able to rearrange it for this week.

Before the match, I asked all the girls to write down 2 positions they would like to play in. With this in mind our first quarter saw Tayla and Gabriella in our shooting D. The girls had lots of chances to score, but unfortunately lady luck wasn’t on our side and the shots just wouldn’t go in! Mona and Clara had a good defensive quarter; sticking to their players tightly and Clara used her height well securing lots of rebounds. Scarlett was all over the court in the centre position and with the help of Lulu and Lowenna in the wing positions, they passed the ball down the court to our shooters. After the first quarter we were only a goal down and very much in the game!

Unfortunately, the second quarter changes were to be our downfall; the girls didn’t settle quickly enough and the Brambletye girls took full advantage, with their tall GA scoring 4 goals with no reply from the Copthorne girls, we went into half-time 4-0 down.

However, the girls didn’t let the scoreline deter them, they came out for the third quarter raring to go. The on court team did really well, matching Brambletye pass for pass and it was in this quarter that Tayla managed to get us on the scoreboard with a lovely unselfish pass from Clara in our circle. Brambletye also scored a goal but Millie and Lowenna were strong in defence.

The final quarter was the best quarter for the Copthorne girls with everyone playing well. Lowenna was strong in the centre position with Amelie and Millie supporting in the mid court to link the ball from the defenders to our shooters. Once again Mona and Scarlett were strong in defence and prevented the Brambletye shooters adding to their scoreline. Scarlett scored 2 goals, and Lulu also got on the scorecard with a super goal. We won this 4th quarter 3-0 but sadly it was too late.

Huge thanks to the parents who came to support. Lowenna was voted player of the match by the Brambletye girls, but I thought all the girls played their part; a special mention goes to Scarlett for her great intercepting today! Well done girls. MJ
