U9 A & B v Ardingly

12th October 2017

On a wet windy day, the boys were looking forward to another match. We played 7 a side for both matches – the boys all played and some in different positions!

The As probably played their best match of the season. The work rate was very good with players both defending and attacking in good numbers. Everyone tried to play passing football – the improvement in control and looking for space as been impressive during the football season. As Ardingly were also passing the football, it was a treat to referee. The As lost 2-0 but we did have at least three good chances which we couldn’t put away. The positive is  that these chances were created.

The Bs put up a good fight but were a little over run by a more physical and athletic side. They lost 3-1 which was a little harsh with two Ardingly goals being scored in the last two minutes.

There were moments of skill with drag backs and solid tackling and simple passing. The boys have really come together as a squad by encouraging each other, working and tackling hard but as a squad lack a little depth. They have all improved and more importantly seem to like playing sport and the memories and experiences it can give.

Winning is not everything, progression is the most important value at any level. I will not name names but we had some inexperienced players succeeding in drag backs and dribbling and making strong solid tackles which is a big credit to the whole squad.

Cheers boys!
