The Under 9’s kicked off their season away to Shoreham College and will feel frustrated that they could not come away with at least a draw. Although Shoreham had the lion’s share of the possession it was Copthorne who created the most clear cut opportunities to score.  As we know with football, possession is brilliant but you have to create chances on goal also.

Shoreham took an early 2-0 leadcopthorne-prep-school-u9a-football-v-shoreham-college in the first third but there was still plenty of time to get back into the game. The second third was a much more even affair and it was within this 10 minute period where we hit the cross bar, grazed the post and forced the keeper into some wonderful saves. It would be Shoreham again, however, who grabbed a goal and extended their lead.

In the final third Copthorne took over possession and chance after chance came and went.  We managed to pull a goal back but there was too little time left on the clock to grab a 2nd and 3rd goal. As the game progressed our boys grew into it more and began to work for each other.  There is still plenty to work on in regards to striking the ball correctly and picking up runners but this will come with practice.  Well done to James, Josh, Marcos, Elliott, Lewis and Pranav.
