U9 ‘A’ Netball v Great Walstead

21st October 2016

This week the U9A netball team took on Great Walstead. It was clear from when we arrived that they had heard of our previous success on the netball court so I was hoping for a good game. This week Clara was captain and we were given the first centre pass. The girls seemed a little shaky at the start and it took them a while to get into their rhythm of play, with lots of loose balls. However they were marking extremely well making it hard for Great Walstead to move the ball down the court. The score after the first quarter was 2-0 to Copthorne with goals from both Ella and Biba. Once again the girls started a little ‘off’ and Great Walstead immediately scored a goal back. It was clear that both teams were fairly evenly matched at this point and our girls were going to be in for a great game. Throughout the second quarter play continued to be tough but our Copthorne girls were fighting. Harley was making fantastic interceptions around court and really helping to control the play. However we were so quick in attack mistakes were creeping in. The score at half time was 4-1 to Copthorne.

After a quick team talk the girls were determined to play their netball and not let any umpiring decisions get to them. They remained focused and determined and once again picked up their game. Ella and Biba were moving well in the circle and all players were now passing more accurately. Great interceptions were made from Daisy, Danni and Harley to win back the ball and play seemed more settled. This was great to see!

The final score was 9-1 to Copthorne, a great team effort from all 9 girls. Well done Ella, Biba, Ffion, Harley, Danni, Daisy, Layla, Clara and Victoria. Once again a proud coach!
