U9 ‘A’ Netball v Hurstpierpoint

29th September 2016

After a demolition of Pennthorpe earlier in the week the girls were hoping for a tougher game. The team were captained by Biba who unfortunately lost the toss giving Hurst the first advantage. Once again losing the toss didn’t make any difference to the girls who quickly turned over the ball and scored the first goal. Despite this great start the girls seemed a little flustered in their play and were crowding the ball, making silly little mistakes. After the first quarter the score was 3-0 to Copthorne and I could tell the girls weren’t happy! After a little encouragement the girls were ready! During the second quarter the girls were still not playing their game but they were beginning to spread out and iron out any errors. Hurst had picked up during this quarter too and they were looking strong. The score at half time was 6-2 to Copthorne.

After another team talk and a few changes of position the girls were not going to give up and were determined to come back out fighting and play the way they knew they could. They most defiantly didn’t disappoint- it was a new team! The girls were fantastic! Biba and Ella were working together in the circle using Harley and Ffion, Harley was controlling the game making great interceptions and feeding the ball beautifully, Ffion and Victoria were spreading the game out in the centre third and Layla and Danni were marking tight and sweeping up any loose balls. In this quarter the girls scored a further 7 goals bringing their total to 13! This quarter also saw a fantastic long shot from Ella- a definite crowd pleaser for all supporters! In the last quarter again with a few more changes the girls continued on their high, playing their style of netball. Clara and Layla were again solid in defence while Biba and Ella were working well in the circle. The final score was 18-2 to Copthorne! A bit of a shaky start girls but a fantastic netball display in the second half! Very proud parents and coach!

Girl of the game voted by Hurst was Harley!
