U9 A Rugby v Ashdown House – March 2017

1st March 2017

Ashdown was a lot less muddy than Pennthorpe yesterday, and the rugby was a little more expansive on their wide field. I was very happy with our tackling and defensive shape today. We tackled for the first 3 minutes solidly without letting Ashdown get a sniff of our try line, and this boosted our confidence early in the game. Toby and James did an excellent job of staying out on their respective wings which gave us width in defence, though we all still crowded around the ball when it came to attacking play.

After a close first half where Olly and Toby scored for us, we began to gain the upper hand, as excellent aggressive tackling from Felix and Will, as well as James and Josh put pressure on our opponents. Olly scored another two tries, Toby got a second, while Josh, Matteo and Will also scored. Rafe did a very nice job at scrum half, and the boys came off very pleased after probably their best performance to date. We still need to pass earlier, but well done boys!
