U9 ‘B’ Netball v Caterham

Caterham won the toss and took the first centre pass. From the first whistle Copthorne were on their toes determined to regain possession of the ball. Lowenna and Victoria were fantastic around the centre court and Mona and Millie in defence were superb at marking their players. Copthorne were faster than Caterham around the court and their passes quick and accurate. Although Caterham’s GD was very tall Copthorne’s shooters were quick to rebound their shots and scored 2 goals in the first quarter. At the start of the second quarter Mona had a nasty fall and had to go off to get her knees cleaned up! Katie went to GD and Amelie came on to play WD. It took a while for Copthorne to adjust to the changes made and when the whistle went for half time Copthorne were in the lead 2-0.

After a drink of water and Mona patched up Copthorne were ready to start the second half. Once again the Copthorne defence marked their opponents very closely, jumping to intercept the ball and rebounding any shots. Gabriella linked well with Lowenna and Victoria to move the ball down the court into shooter Tayla who scored Copthorne’s third goal. In the final quarter a few positional changes were made. Copthorne continued to work well as a team passing and moving into space. Victoria’s shooting was superb and she scored 2 goals in the final quarter. In the last few minutes the game was tightly contested with each team scoring goals. When the final whistle went it was a win for Copthorne 6-1.

Congratulations to Victoria who was voted girl of the match and a special mention for Mona who after having a nasty fall came back on to finish the match. I would like to thank all the parents for their support and encouragement this afternoon.

Well done to the team; Mona (captain) Victoria, Tayla, Amelie, Lowenna, Gabriella, Katie and Millie.
