The U9A’s looked forward to their 2nd indoor hockey game, eager to build on their previous weeks performance. It was a tough match with the hosts, great Walstead dominating throughout the first half. They took the lead very early on and even though Biba managed to level the scores we were soon playing catch-up and going into half time 1-3 down.

The 2nd half was very exciting as both teams created chance after chance. Copthorne defended fantastically and looked quickly for the break away and soon found themselves pulling back another goal. Both teams were now beginning to tire as the girls where frantically chasing after the ball to clear any danger in their defensive area as well as looking to score. With only a couple of minutes left Copthorne sneaked in the equaliser, leaving parents and coaches on the edge of their sets. In the end a draw was the best way to end the match as both teams fought and played hard.

The B’s match also got off to a slow start as many of the girls were playing for the first time in a hockey match. Great Walstead once again took the lead but gradually as the half went on Copthorne started to find their way. They were now quicker to the ball and a lot stronger in tackles. Lowenna found a burst of speed and space and carried the ball well into the D to level up the scores. Unfortunately the home side continued to be on the attack with some good players who made a couple of clean breaks to score another 2 goals.

The second half saw the girls competing for the ball higher up on the pitch allowing them to create some goal scoring opportunities; they also broke down players sooner but unfortunately they could not replicate another comeback like the A’s. The girls are still learning and developing their skills and they should be proud of the effort and determination they showed.
