U9 Hockey – Lost 2-3

The U9s found themselves playing their first ever hockey match today outdoors, and on grass. All the girls were keen to play today although they seemed to lack some of their normal enthusiaism to begin with!
Ella D captained the side and won the toss for the first push back. The U9s tried hard from this first push back and throughout the first half, however the Handcross girls had a lot more experience than the Copthorne girls on the grass, and this showed in their strong passing, hits and general play.Nevertheless Copthorne never gave up and fought hard up until half time.

After a team talk at half time the U9s came back fighting and with much more aggression and enthusiasm .All of the U9s players got stuck in and started to tackle the Handcross players more, which they started to use to their advantage. This is where the game really started to get exciting! The U9s continuously attacked Handcross, time after time again and were finally rewarded with a great goal from Charlotte Radley. The U9s continued in their ‘attack’ and were soon rewarded with another great goal, this time from Katherine Radley! The U9s were just starting to get warmed up and were beginning to attack Handcross again, when the final whistle blew! A great second half for Copthorne today in which they were definitely the better side, however sadly due to the girls shaky first half, Handcross just pipped Copthorne to the post with 3 goals to 2! A great effort today girls for your first ever match outdoors, and on grass. I look forward to seeing all of your hockey progress further as you move up the school! Well done again to all of the U9s that played today, especially the ‘Radleys’ the goal scorers, and a big thank you to all the parents that came to watch, it was nice to see so many of you again!
