U9 Indoor Hockey v Great Walstead

26th February 2016

In only their second hockey match the U9A’s are improving in leaps and bounds. Although they did not come away with a win they played some fast paced attacking hockey with Gabbi (player of the match) showing fantastic ball control and vision, creating many attacks down both wings. Both teams were equally matched, nothing separating the two, as soon as one team won the ball the defence from the opposition were ready to tackle and put you under pressure. Charlotte, Eva and Amelie worked tirelessly to move the ball up field through to Annabelle and Gabbi. Our forwards, Keira and Zara were hard at work, making good leads upfront and finding themselves on numerous occasions in the D, only to be denied by some last minute saves from the home side defence.

The U9B’s were to follow and for many of them this was their first hockey match. Although the pace was not as fast as the previous match the girls continued with the same fighting spirit and tried to implement all the skills they have learnt. Sophie and Robin (player of the match) both found themselves all over the court, looking to create as many chances as possible. They were backed up well by some solid defending from Ellie, Isabella and Amreet. The play was not always in our defensive half as they girls used the boards well, opening up the space for our forwards Ella and Amelie to try and score. Both teams had their fair share of chances but it was the home side that managed to sneak in two goals to claim the win.

Well done to all the girls for some excellent hockey that was very entertaining to watch, the results could have gone either way. HP
