We arrived at Great Walstead unaware what the netball festival would hold! It turned out that it was a mini tournament which the girls were thrilled about and raring to go!
The schools where divided into 2 groups with Copthorne drawn into the blue group with St Aubyns, Fonthill and Great Walstead. The U9s first game in their group was against St Aubyns. It was clear from the onset that Copthorne held the advantage dominating the game. The girls showed great team spirit and gelled well together with some great attacking and defending from all. Our defending was solid and St Aubyns were unable to even attempt a goal. We won this game 3-0.
Our second game was against Fonthill. Copthorne proved strong again holding off the opposition and seemed to grow in confidence. There was no stopping Chloe and Prisha with their shooting, scoring from almost every shot and there was some fantastic interceptions and play in centre court and defence. The defence were tight and held off Fonthill and we won this game 5-0.
Our final match was against Great Walstead. Great Walstead had improved since we last played them and proved to be out strongest competition yet. Both teams played some great netball throughout the game but Copthorne proved difficult to beat and had the upper hand winning this game 2-1.
Throughout the festival some fantastic netball was played by all with 22 goals being scored in our group with nearly half of them being scored by Copthorne- so well done Prisha and Chloe!!
Our defence Michaela and Katie were outstanding allowing only one goal to be scored throughout the tournament helping to secure Copthorne’s Victory – Winners of their group!
We also took part in a shooting competition competing against the other teams in their group to be the first team to score twenty goals. I think everybody scored at least one goal whatever their position and no matter how small they were! Copthorne came second in this competition which was fantastic seeing as we had the highest net to score in – an excellent end to the Festival!
A big thank you must go out to all the parents and Miss Aspell for their support and for cheering us on and I must also say a great big thank you and well done to all the U9s who worked their socks off and played with confidence and team spirit allowing them to be victorious and winners of their group!
