U9 Rounders v Cumnor – Drew 15-15

Cumnor won the toss but decided to bat first which was an advantage to Copthorne. Copthorne knew they had to field well in this first innings in order to keep the score low!

Cumnor’s batting was strong and was some of the best batting we have seen so far this season from other opponents.  However Copthorne worked well as a team stumping out 2 Cumnor players and getting out a further 3 with great catches from Michaela, Prisha and Freya!  In Copthorne’s first batting innings the girls were a little nervous to begin with but as the innings went on the girls become more confident picking up lots of half rounders and 3 great rounders from Freya, Victoria and Chloe!  At the end of the first innings there was a rounder and a half between the two teams-so it was all to play for in the second innings!

Cumnor came out strong again with their batting but Copthorne once again fielded brilliantly much more confident than in the first innings! As a result Copthorne managed to stump 2 Cumnor players out and there were great catches from Katie, Michaela, Freya and Chloe.  The girls batted well in the second innings but with a few silly mistakes and Cumnor’s good fielding they had managed to whittle us down to two players with a few minutes to go! Both the girls fought hard but with Cumnor managing to stump out one of our players  –  it left Copthorne with one remaining batsmen Emma!

Player of the match must go to Emma who although was the last batter left standing managed to score a fantastic rounder helping to gain the valuable draw that Copthorne greatly deserved!

Well done today girls this was a super match to watch and umpire with the standard of rounders being superb from both teams! It was the most catches taken in a match for both teams and some great batting by all!  You should be proud of yourselves girls!   TC
