This week the under 9’s looked to build on last week’s result at home to Hurst. We began poorly and found ourselves 1-0 down within 30 seconds. Some missed tackles lead to us going 2-1 down after a couple of minutes. A strong run and try from Arun lead to a second try as we caught up to make the score 3-2. We were continually chasing the game and found ourselves 5-3 down at half time. A tough half time team-talk meant that we knew we had to make some more hits and make it harder for the Lancing players to get through in the second half. We did this well and also made good yards going forward. We ran with more purpose at the start of the second half and continued to make good tackles. We closed the gap to 6-5 to Lancing before some extremely soft tackling let Lancing score some easy tries to make it 8-5. This kicked us on a little and we came back for a second time with the score finishing 8-7 to Lancing. In truth this score flattered us a little as we feel we still had more to give. Bits of fantastic play, mixed with some very average rugby lead to a close finish in the end. Another 30 second and the result could have been different. Some battered and bruised boys at the end of the game, but the cold weather and bitter wind made it difficult for all players. Onto next week with another home fixture vs Handcross Park.
