U9/8 Rounders v Brambletye – Summer 2017

4th May 2017

After matches being abandoned last week after a hailstorm the girls were keen to play their first match of the season. Today’s match was a mixed team of 5 girls from year 4 and 5 girls from year 3. Gabriella was captain today and Brambletye won the toss and chose to bat first.

Brambletye got off to a fabulous start by scoring a rounder on the first ball of the match. After 20 good balls and some great bowling by Gabriella, Brambletye scored 3 rounders in their first innings. It was now Copthorne’s turn to bat and Mona was the first to score a rounder. This was shortly followed by Katie, Jennifer, Bella and Victoria all scoring half rounders. Katie and Jennifer both scored another half rounder each on their second bat bringing Copthorne’s total to 4 rounders.

After a quick team talk and some positional changes both teams were ready to start their second innings. Copthorne were very focused and fielded exceptionally well and managed to get 6 players out. Gabriella bowled consistently well and Martha at backstop was quick to retrieve the ball passing to Victoria at 4th base getting several players out. Deep fielders Bella, Anna, Rachel and Jennifer were quick to field any ball hit out into the field stopping Brambletye from scoring. At the end of their second innings Brambletye only managed to score half a rounder.

It was Copthorne’s turn to bat again and Gabriella got Copthorne off to a great start by scoring a rounder on the first ball. With lots of encouragement from the team Mona went on to score another rounder. This was soon followed by Jennifer scoring her second rounder and Anna, Rachel, Tianna and Victoria adding to Copthorne’s score by scoring half rounders. Gabriella, Tianna and Victoria all went on to score another half rounder each on their second bat bringing Copthorne’s total to 6½.

Well done girls! A great team effort! Congratulations to Mona and Jennifer who were Copthorne’s top batters today, scoring 2 rounders each. A big thank you to all our supporters today for braving the cold! Let’s hope we get sunshine next week!
