U9A Football v St Christopher’s

13th November 2015

Won 6-1

A grey drab day brightened by a superb performance from both sets of Copthorne under 9s.

The As played first against a strong side. The boys got a lucky break from an unfortunate own goal by St Christopher’s. At half time the boys were 4-0 up with Essam completing a fine hat-trick of well taken goals. The midfield of Sam R , Sam P and Nick, and defence of James and Ewan were simply outstanding. They played passing football, controlled the ball and passed into a team mate or into space for players to run onto. The final score was a win by 6-1 with Matthew in goal unluckily beaten by a deflection, which spoiled an excellent performance of concentration and organising from him.

A couple of things really pleased me, possession, fitness and finishing drills worked on in games lessons were taken into the match situation. In the final 30 seconds playing uphill we had four players in the opposition penalty box. The boys then showed a mature attitude when St Christopher’s started to play aggressively; they simply just competed and got on with the game, no one more so than Essam who scored five … could have had eight.

Awesome boys simply awesome. AS
