The U9s waited patiently in the studio until it was time for them to play. Brambletye arrived with 9 players and we had 6 – no goalies!
The game got off to a frantic start with Brambletye being very strong on the ball. Their defence stood their ground and it was hard for the Copthorne girls to penetrate through to the goal. Priya had a shot early in the first half, but unfortunately it went just wide.
Anna had a fantastic game in defence and cleared and tackled well. The Copthorne girls battled hard in the first half but on occasions they got in each others way, which led to the goal from Brambletye.
After a team talk at half-time the Copthorne girls came out a different team … talk about a game of 2 halves! This certainly was! We attacked the Brambletye goal time and again, scored several goals from outside the D; which were obviously disallowed; until eventually Rachel got onto the end of a lovely ball in from Jennifer and Bella and hit the back board of the goal 1-1!
Tianna chased the ball both in attack and defence and passed a strong ball into the D which one of the defenders failed to clear and Rachel was again in the right place to score her second goal.
With a few minutes left to play the Copthorne girls were hungry for more goals; Priya finally got her deserved goal to win the game.
Well done girls, some excellent hockey and you all played your part; a great team effort!
Congratulations to Bella who was voted player of the match by the Brambletye girls and my player of the match goes to Anna for her excellent defensive work.
