U9A Netball v Cumnor – Lost 7-9

Copthorne knew Cumnor were going to make them work today and that they did! Cumnor dominated the game in the first quarter and caused Copthorne to panic with their passing and interrupted Copthorne’s normal play. By the end of the first quarter Cumnor were 2-0 up. Copthorne then got their heads together in the second quarter and demonstrated some fantastic attacking down court into the circle as the passing was quick and just seemed to flow wonderfully. By the end of the second quarter/half time the girls had pulled the game right back up winning the second quarter 3-0.

It was all to play for in the last two quarters of the match and it could have been anyone’s game today. The defenders consisting of Loren, Elizabeth and Karina battled hard to win the valuable interceptions needed to turn over the centre passes and play despite two of them really not feeling well! And the centre court and shooters consisting of Liliana, Emily, Holly and Alys had to work incredibly hard today to feed the ball up court and into the circle due to Cumnor’s tight marking and defence.

Although Copthorne fought hard in the last two quarters Cumnor just had the edge over Copthorne, taking the match 9-7.  Both Cumnor and Copthorne played some superb netball today that they should be proud off as it was one of the most thrilling matches that I have seen in a while and although Cumnor just beat Copthorne to the post today the game could off gone either way!

The U9s should be extremely proud of themselves as although it was the girls first loss of the season they all demonstrated good sportsmanship, determination and a great attitude towards the game and that to me today was worth more than the win!

Well done to Holly, Alys, Emily, Loren, Karina, Elizabeth and Liliana, sometimes we have to lose in order to better ourselves and our game! TC
