U9A Rounders v Great Walstead – Won 12½-8

This week the U9A team took on Great Walstead. Captain this week was Ruby H who lost the toss meaning Copthorne were to bat first! The girls got off to a good start scoring a total of 7 rounders. Half rounders were scored by Alana, Ruby H, Freya, Emily May, Macie, Tia and Emily W with Ruby H also scoring a full rounder. The girls had set Great Walstead a good target and now needed to field well. They seemed a little nervous in the field at the start making a few silly errors. Towards the end of the innings things started to fall back into place with Ruby H getting a stumping on 2nd post, Emily W getting 2 stumping’s on first post and Mallory getting a player out with a great catch. Great Walstead had scored 5½ rounders!

After a tactics team talk the girls were ready for their second innings. The batting didn’t quite go to plan with all players being out after 16 good balls however full rounders were scored by Emily W and Mallory and halves by Macie, Beth, Alana and Ruby. Copthorne’s total was now 12½ they knew that they had to field well if they wanted to keep their lead. The girls really pulled their fielding innings out of the bag, they were fantastic! Emily W had 2 stumping’s on 1st post from great throwing by Alana and Freya had a stumping on 4th post from a great throw by Beth. Mallory’s bowling was outstanding and all the girls really focused and worked as a team.

A great effort girls and a well deserved win! Great Walstead’s player of the match  and my player of the match was Emily W.

Well done to all, great teamwork!  HC
