U9A Rounders v Hazelwood – Lost 10½-12½

After three days of practice, the U9As found themselves playing their first rounders match of the season. The girls were excited to be playing especially since last year the rounders season was such a wash out, and not many matches were played!
Charlotte captained the side today and did a great job both on, and off the rounders pitch. She won the toss and so Copthorne went in to field first. The U9As had a great first innings of fielding and despite Hazelwood having two players who could ‘whack’ the ball, Copthorne worked hard as a team trying to apply what they had learnt in practice and kept the score to a minimum.Copthorne then went into bat and continued this great momentum with three great rounders being scored from Charlotte and one from Ella C, and half rounders being scored from Neve, Rosie, Amelia and Josie. At the end of the first innings Copthorne were in the lead!

Despite this great start Copthorne seemed to lose their focus in the second innings and were not watching the ball, or each other! As a result of this they allowed Hazelwood to push up their score, and deny Copthorne from scoring many! Due to this second innings Hazelwood just managed to pip Copthorne to the post with 12 1/2 rounders to Copthornes 10 1/2, a very close match indeed! Well done to all of the U9As today I could not fault your enthusiasm all afternoon, and I’m sure with more practice and better focus, you are a team that should do well this season!

My player of the match today goes to Charlotte for her super batting, more like this next week please Charlotte! T.C

Charlotte 4, Ella.C 2 1/2, Amelia 2, Neve 1/2, Rosie 1/2, Katherine.M 1/2, Josie 1/2.
