U9B Cricket v Lancing College Prep – Summer 2017

11th June 2017

The B’s, looking to improve on their solid performance against Great Walstead, gave a good account of themselves on the square and although they only claimed 1 wicket, from the bowling of James, they managed to keep the number of extras down and bowl plenty of dot balls. Lancing were limited to 62 runs in total thanks to some fine bowling from Felix J and Felix T, Elliott and Arun.

When it was our turn to bat we were aggressive when we had the opportunity to score runs, helped ourselves to a handful of boundaries and accepted the no balls and wides to help our run chase tick over. With only 11 runs an over needed to win we were in front of the run rate from the 3rd pair onwards and although we lost 2 wickets in the process we were scoring just enough to hold a slender lead. At the end of the 12 overs and with the score line adjusted for the lost wickets we had reached a total of 64 runs for a 2 run win!

You often get some close games of pairs cricket but to finish within 2 runs of each other is a very rare occurrence. It was brilliant to get a first win under our belts and hopefully there will be a couple more before the end of the season. Well done to the 12 boys involved; you all played your part.
