As in the last game against Great Walstead, we decided to play a variation of ‘pairs cricket’ where each bowler would have a 9 ball over giving the batting pair the equivalent of 3 overs between them. Winning the toss we put Lancing into bat first and it turned out to be a master stroke from Captain Josh. I thought we bowled some of our best overs so far this season today with very few runs given away. To top it off we managed to claim 7 wickets which reduced Lancing’s score by 35 runs. With Lancing’s batting total being bumped up somewhat by wides and no-balls, they finished with 80 runs but with a loss of 35 giving them a grand total of 45 runs from their 12 overs.

Wickets: Chris, Luke, Daniel, Hamish and Rio all took 1 wicket each whilst Lucas took 2 wickets.

We did not take too long to reach the target of 45 runs but it was important to keep our concentration so not to lose any wickets and thus reducing our score by 5 runs with every loss. Thankfully our boys were up to the task and batted very sensibly indeed. They left the wide balls and tried to play the straight ones. Every wide is worth 2 runs so leaving them is guaranteeing the team runs on the board and also ensures that you do not lose a wicket. The bowling did not allow our batsmen the chance to score many runs off the bat but the most important thing was practicing the correct way to play the game. We ended with a total of 110 runs and only lost 2 wickets along the way resulting in a final score of 100 runs.

Batting scores: Josh (5), Lucas (3), Pranav, Rafe, Freddie, Daniel and Chris (1 each)

So, a convincing win by 55 runs for the U9B team and with only a handful of games remaining it puts us in a positive position to finish with a winning season. Well done boys.
