U9B Cricket v Windlesham

29th April 2016

It was great to start the cricket season with a win but more importantly to produce a strong performance.

Although we were slightly lenient with the Windlesham bowling actions there was no need to be with our boys as each of the 10 players used a straight arm. As with the majority of U9 fixtures the ‘extras’ column came out on top of the scoring charts. The batting figures don’t do our batsmen much justice as there were so few hittable balls but believe me when I say that if the ball was hittable the Copthorne batsmen duly obliged and took the runs!

Batting Figures: Ewan (12), Matthew (6), Ruari, Daniel, Rio, Christopher (3), Rafe, Finley, Rian (2), Ronnie (1), Extras (108), Total 340 (including 1 loss of wicket)

In the field we limited Windlesham to 281 runs after deducting 30 runs for taking 6 of their wickets. Ewan took 2 great catches along with a run out. Ruari claimed a run out and a bowling wicket and Ronnie also claimed a bowling wicket.

So, Copthorne won the game by 59 runs and can be pleased with their efforts. There is still plenty to work on, especially bowling accuracy and staying alert in the field but overall it was a solid performance and a good base to work on for the rest of the season. Well done boys! MA
